Capstone Characters

Post by erik »

I was surfing my local Living Greyhawk territory's webpage (Verbobonc), and stumbled upon a somewhat funny article.

Capstone Characters

I've never seen someone go through such conniving to make a permanently crappy character. It doth amuse.

There is a pdf download with further explanation, but the gist for those who dislike downloads is to level dip a bunch to pick up enough classes that once you finally advance one non-favored class beyond the rest, you get 100% experience penalty.

My favored method of exp dogpaddling is item creation, but that's me.

This is an example of why I fvcking hate Living Greyhawk. Because the monsters you face are literally drectly scaled to your own level, and your accumulation o swag is heavily regulated but not actually responded to once you get it - getting levels is bad or indifferent, and getting gold pieces is good.

So really the goal is to figure out a way to maximize your gold accumulation in comparison to your XP total. And the permanent 100% reduction in gained XP is a damned good way to do that. Of course, as you've noted, Item Creation and Permanency is an even better one, since you actually get something for the XP that you are flushing down instead of just hiding it in a condom in your colon.

Heh, there certainly is a lot to hate about Living Greyhawk, as it is infinitely inferior to a real campaign/group, but lately it seems like the only hope I have of playing with anyone would be via LivinGreyhawk, as most of my other roleplaying friends now just go out clubbing. Pheh. Hell, my usual LG group disbanded even, so I'm out there too I guess.

I'm so starved for roleplaying that I'm contemplating driving out to Origins just to game some. But that's neither here nor there I guess.

I thought it might be a neat mental excercise to try and plan a decent/playable capstone character.

An item crafter is straight out, since you can't get any exp. Suck.
I can't think of any legal way to have a decent caster due to the extreme multiclassing requirements.

So that just leaves multiclassed rogues, or BAB-heavy types. Weak-tea.

Probably a good bet would be some sort of HP monster, if the HP feats from MotW are legal. Could be walking around with an Fort save off the Rng and nearly a couple hundred HP by level 10.

Capstone Character:

Cleric 8. Feat: Craft Wand.

Every three adventures you make a Wand of Planar Ally, Lesser. Then you sell it. This costs you 5,800 XP and 10,500 GP. It sells for 23,000 GP.

Done.
